Hey guys. I have a Quadrajet on my 1979 Corvette. It has the integral choke on the passenger side of the carburetor (the one that uses a heat source from the manifold to open it). I switched to a Performer RPM intake that doesn't have anywhere to hook my choke up to, so I've been running with the choke disabled for the summer.
Now that it's getting colder out, I'd like to have an operational choke again. I'm hoping to go with an electric choke, what would I need to purchase to turn mine into an electric choke?
Just need a 12V source that gets power when the ignition is turned on. Some ideas I've seen, that I've really liked, was to put it behind an oil pressure switch that only turns on when the car has oil pressure.
Just hook it up to the coil hot from the ignition switch.
Some will raise concerns that this takes power away from the ignition. Mine was wired this way without issue, but I'm no longer running an e-choke at this point (EFI).
Make sure not to put the gasket between the choke cap and choke housing back in place when you switch to an electric choke - the metal contact between the housing and cap is meant to ground out the connection.

Don't do that.
A safe place to pull power is from the wire going to the windshield wiper motor - the wiper motor is always hot with the ignition on. Or, run a wire from any "IGN" terminal on your fusebox.
