70 Changing drivers side dash speaker?
Apparently I hVetwo bad speakers in my 70. The passenger one is easy, but the drivers side looks like a pain in the rear. Is there any tricks to this?
They are confirmed bad.

The tasks of this project are not difficult; but some of them are tedious and it is best if you have small hands. Do a SEARCH and you will no doubt find the detailed procedure for changing the speaker on the driver's side.

Been there done that on my 72....
The inside trim has to come off around the windshield....You have to take the brace off the steering wheel where the headlight override switch is located....The drivers dash gauge cluster has to be unscrewed from the top dash the center cluster gauge has to be taken loose...There is a screw that holds the top dash in place that has to come loose....
Then you can get to the screws that hold the speaker in place....Getting everything including the speaker is the hard part....I used some thin plastic washers to hold the screws to the speaker frame to make it easier on install....I saw no way to hold everything in place and the line the screws up.
I took some pics and described some of the process on my blog....Link below....Scroll down for the install.
Radio and speaker install....
Good luck....

Hi D,
You might try removing the 2 bolts that support the steering column below the dash, and the 2 bolts at the firewall. This allows the column to drop down about 3". (Support the column at that point so the weight of the column/wheel isn't on the rag joint.).
Remove the 7 screws that hold the lower dash in place.
Loosen the hood release bracket.
This allows the pad to droop down and be tipped slightly toward the rear and give you the access shown here.
It's just A BIT easier than removing the dash pad entirely.
Still not a pleasant job.
Good Luck!

Alan

Here's my solution if you don't care about originality. Leave the speakers where they are and install speakers in the kick panels. Much quicker to do it this way without compromising audio quality.
