Default Horn button contact

Hi All,

I'm bit vexed with another '68 only type issue!

Seemingly, the main parts peddlers carry a '68 horn button contact.... or a 69 onwards horn button KIT.

I need a whole kit as I have no components except the button itself.

so.. my question is simple; what is the physical difference between the 68 and the 69 contact - and can the 69 contact be bastardised to fit a 68 column?

thanks for thoughts!

The differences between the 68 and 69 horn button and contact are very small. The mounting flange on the back of the button has a larger lip in 1968 than in 1969. You can see it in the attached photo of the back of the buttons. The 1968 is on the right.

The smaller lip was needed in 1969 because the column mounting hardware changed slightly. The attached photos show the change between the years. In 1969 the circular ring with ears on the column is of a slightly larger diameter. This also makes the diameter of the plastic insulators mounted on the ring larger. The large lip of the 1968 button interferes with the insulators. The smaller lip on the 1969+ buttons will clear them.

The 69 horn hardware will work on 68 column just fine, you just can't use a 68 horn button with the 69 contact without some modifications.

If you have the button and a non tele column then this is all you should need.

Sorry willcox, 20 mins too late!

I just managed to tack a 69 kit on to an order I placed with corvette central yesterday (before realising I needed a horn kit!)

I'm slightly hopeful that my 68 button is actually a 69 or later button anyway - since seemingly nothing else that has come with this 'project' is bleeping original...

No worries, I don't need an order to help people.. I'm here to help, it's what I enjoy.
