Hi Bh,
This was actually a problem with early 68 cars.
A very small 'clip' was added that slips on the rear end of the door.
That 'clip' puts a little pressure on the under side of the shifter console plate and stops the door from sliding freely.
I believe I've seen the clip offered from vendors.

but maybe worn out? that is what I replaced on my 76 to fix it from sliding open by itself.

I agree that the plastic guides can be worn and thus...the door slides with very little to no resistance. SO...even if the clip Alan mentioned may still not work to it designed potential if the plastic guides are that badly worn.
