Default Ashtray door?

I have a 69 coupe and the ashtray door will not stay closed. What part is needed to repair?

If its the same as an 81, it needs a new spring.

Hi Bh,
This was actually a problem with early 68 cars.
A very small 'clip' was added that slips on the rear end of the door.
That 'clip' puts a little pressure on the under side of the shifter console plate and stops the door from sliding freely.
I believe I've seen the clip offered from vendors.
Regards,
Alan

Hi B2B,
Thanks!
I don't know 'diddly' compared to people that REALLY know 68-72 cars!
I wish they would speak up more so I could learn from what they post.
Regards,
Alan

Does anyone have a part reference or link to a parts site? I've searched various parts sites and only find the whole door.

Hi Bh,
You need to have have access to the back end of the little door.
The shifter plate needs to be raised up to do that.

Alan

I agree that the plastic guides can be worn and thus...the door slides with very little to no resistance. SO...even if the clip Alan mentioned may still not work to it designed potential if the plastic guides are that badly worn.
