Default Warning

I see a lot of posts saying people have smelly gas in their garage. This is no joke and very serious. Back in 2009 I had a 72 with the same problem. I disconnected the gas line one night to fix and left it like that. You wouldn't believe what happened next! While we were sleeping the frig switched on....the gas and air EXPLODED through the roof, blew the walls out and the windows. We were in the house and believe it or not my Mother, Wife and me got out safe!

We lost everything we ever owned including two cars and all possessions! We had to rebuild our life and my wife suffers from PTSD today. I beg everyone, please take this seriously! I like to remind everyone once in a while.

Thanks for taking the time to remind us,especially at this time of year when the garage doors are mostly closed. And I know you know how lucky you all were. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

We just lost our house to a fire on October 22nd. Not something you ever want to go through.

That sucks and great advice. Don't store gas cans in there either.

I'm lucky my garage is detached and I don't have a fridge in it.
Still hate to see it burn though.

If the line is disconnected or leaking at the pump, gravity can cause the fuel to siphon out the tank...

True. When I had my engine out last time I capped off my fuel lines to the pump on the frame with those cheap rubber vacuum caps. For a month I had the front end on jack stands. No leak. Reinstalled the engine. Pushed it back in the garage for the night. Next morning I went in the garage to find a big puddle of gas on the floor. The gas ate the rubber plugs and caused a leak. Glad I was not working that day because I would have had a huge mess and better yet no fire. You could almost see the gas fumes.
