I went to tighten down a leaking Valve Cover this morning, and I noticed a wavy Lock Washer on an Exhaust Manifold Bolt wavin'! (circled) It didn't have more than a pound or two torqued on it. Went to check the other manifold bolts (both heads) and, sho nuff, each one took a quarter to a half turn to tightened. Aluminum Cylinder Head. About 10K miles since last tightened.
Hi Steve,
This is probably better than being reminded to 'check your nuts'.
As Revi posted, originally 'french locks' were used.
But, only on the 2 end pairs of bolts, not at the center pair on each manifold.
The french locks go on the bolts first…. before the washers or radio shielding support brackets.
Regards,
Alan
The original french locks had round tabs, not the square tabs as the the replacements typically have. Thus the round tab locks are highly sought after by a few people.
