So you may have seen my recent post where I put in a new windshield frame. Now today I was installing the upper corner moldings that go in before the windshield. I want to make sure that the gap is correct that I'm seeing on the moldings. My t bar molding is bent so it's tough to line up but when I set it in place it fits flush on the window side but the holes don't line up exactly perfect. Looks like I will have to push on that side to set the screws in place. Does the gap in the corner moldings look right
Hi c72,
Here's the original corner molding on my 71 windshield header.
I'm concerned about the size of the heads on the screws used to attach the trim clips. They're larger than the originals and may cause a problem having the tabs on the large piece of ss trim seat properly.
Regards,
Alan
Thanks for your reply. Looking at your pictures. I put the trim clips on the 2 screws that attach to the corner moldings so that's probably wrong. It looks like you have a smaller gap from the extension piece of the corner moldings that goes under the tbar molding. I don't see that there is an adjustment for this as my measurements match the original measurements of the old frame
I can tell you this...and you might not like what I write. But these top windshield frames are really 'touchy'. Especially when it comes together the outer trim you are asking about..and also getting the stainless trim to fit.
I do not know is selling the 'best' top windshield frame currently. But I do know that the original GM ones were the best. I believe I read that Willcox was getting someone to get it RIGHT...because the company that I have used....they are not quite right..and I can spend a lot of time getting the top corner molding to fit correct.
I can say that your corner molding seems to not be fully seated down.
Dub thanks for the reply. I actually got the header and corner pieces from Willcox which are the corrected frames. The gap looks high to me as well and was worried because the t bar molding screw holes weren't lining up at all. I eventually noticed that where the t bar welds to the front header had a weld that was sticking out just enough to stop that t bar molding from sliding down in the proper place. A little grind and it fits well now. Thanks for all yalls replies.
Hi c,
The AIM contains "Checking Dimensions" for the entire windshield frame/cowl.
Have you used those?
Look at UPC 1 Bolt/Weld, Sheets C1 through C10.
I think the sections you'll be most interested in are FF, T, and KK.
Regards,
Alan
If you don't have them let me know and i'll send them to you.
