the standard bolt is 9/16" in diameter and should be at least grade 8

you might want to re-measure the shaft of a factory bolt, not the thread the shaft

Corvette Central has 8" bolts with nyloc nuts. I think that's a couple of inch drop from stock.

I can't remember the diameter / thread pitch, but they are definitely available.

I think I got longer bolts from Ecklers, think they were used on the C4 Vettes. Beware of how close the ends get to the road, think flat tire situation. Good Luck!

Yep or buy run-flats. I would not use 10" bolts for this reason. I have 8" bolts which are at the limit should my tire go flat. 10" bolts would be a disaster I would think.

So what do you think the diameter is? See post #2 in the thread below.

I want 10 so I can get the height right, then cut off unneeded length.

FastenAll can special order some longer bolts, but they are rather costly. But, here's an alternative to special bolts (which the purists won't like) that is doable.

Go with the standard 9/16" bolts, but buy four of them [aprx. 5" long]. Also purchase four 9/16" thread jamb-nuts and two 9/16" full-threaded unions. Size the bolts as needed to get the ride height you want. On each side, install one bolt from the top, then install a jamb-nut and a union [engage the union least 9/16" on to the bolt]. Now, install the second bolt from the bottom and put a jamb-nut on it. You can get the equivalent of a 10" bolt with two 5" bolts connected with a union fitting with jamb-nuts to lock the bolts to the union solidly.

Once you have driven the car a while to let it all settle down, you can make minor adjustments in ride height [with the union position] to finalize the change. When satisfied with it, back off each jamb-nut and put a drop of high-strength Loctite on the threads to fix the jamb-nuts after tightening.

P.S. I don't believe the factory installed Grade 8 bolts in that location. If memory serves, they used Grade 5 fasteners there. Grade 8's are very strong but more brittle, and they will not have the 'toughness' of the Grade 5's . Just something to consider.

How much unneeded length will you have is the question. I have 8" bolts and less than an inch unneeded and would like to lower my rear even more which would require 10" bolts. I'm playing it safer and live with the extra inch or so of ride height.

before i did that I would buy grade 8 9/16 all thread/threaded rod, cut to length and jam nut each end, if i can find it.

I'm using 1/2" grade 8 bolts, each bolt is good for over 3000 lbs of weight x 2 that's 6000 # capacity, that's nearly twice what the car weighs, there's typically 1/2 of the cars weight on the rear. Safety factor of 4, I'm not worried!
