I used one for about a year without any problems, but then switched back to a points style dissy that I rebuilt. Couldn't feel any difference in performance, and I liked the simplicity and reliability(hardened cross gears and ease of trouble-shooting) of the "old tech" unit. Save your money.

In the few years I have mine, the module went 10 minutes after

installed. Ok no biggie, picked up another module, and an extra to

keep in the car.

Then for some reason my fans wont cycle on and off at idle

like they normally do.

Turns out the rubber in the vac advance let go and wouldn't hold vacuum.

I had used them on two separate occasions without any problems. One smallblock, one big block.

I'll bet that most, if not all, lower cost distributors are made in China today.

I've probably had 5-6 of them over the years. Never had one fail.

Thanks all for the input
I did think of keeping the original but to change the cap, contacts, cap, kondensator and ignitionwires would be twice as much so I will try one HEI.

I bought one from Skip White Performance on Ebay for around $50. It has a lifetime warranty. I have called regarding a faulty module and they send a replacement right away with no hassle.

No other issues to report. I did change out to lighter springs and adjusted the vacuum can.

I have one with 20K miles. Works great. Installed a tach drive unit in a friends 69. Eliminated all his ignition issues. Great pieces.

I had an eBay type cheap hei dizzy (for Ford of course) in my f250. Worked ok I guess, but was a cheap piece of crap. Every part felt cheap, and it didn't have any positive locating mechanism for the cap,so every time the dizzy cap was removed (or bumped) I had to retime the engine... Generally cheaply made, I didn't like it, but I did use it for probably 15,000 miles without any reliability issues. Replaced it with an msd ready to run when I rebuilt the engine, much nicer designed and built (I have an msd pro billet dizzy in my Vette too).

Tarrz
Do know that the ignition wires have different connectors at the distributor end? The cost of buying the HEI and the wire set will be more than a points style tune-up. Get a good quality set of plugs, wires, points, condenser, cap and rotor from NAPA for much less than $100. Personally, I don't understand the fascination with HEI uints. A well tuned points distributor (even a single point system) will turn 6000RPM. And they are bullet-proof. They'll always operate well enough to get you home.

Remember you are in US and outside US we have to pay almost the double or more for the same parts. And in my case I think to try it for that money I will pay. The points alone is around 30$ here............ The HEI is around 90$.

I've been very pleased with my Performance distributor but the price may not be for everybody. Some here will say that is a waste of money. If I never ventured more than 30 miles from home or only drove limited miles then I might have considered a cheaper alternative. If you have the original distributor with good bushings you might consider the Pertronix module for the simplicity and dependability.

Are you in Aus? $30 for points is ridiculous, should be half of that or less.

I installed a full kit this fall in my '69 small block. Went well once I figured out correct orientation of #1 lead around the clock to get timing to a starting point.
The only issue I encountered was some strange electrical interference that started as stereo cut-out when engine was running (not RPM-related whine).
Lot's of work to try to shield the firewall inside with foil, used choke filters on the stereo wires, and the problem stopped (not sure what actually killed it).
What it related to was some weird air-borne voltage transmission that would come and go. I could get jumpy voltage readings on my multi-meter, even with the leads disconnected but hovering over the engine bay. When this would happen, the stereo would do its cutting in and out trick.
That phenomenon stopped, and may be attributed to getting the plug wires organized with the billet aluminum wire looms I put in since this photo was taken.
May be attributed to the cheapness of the HEI, putting out strange interferences, but never was 100% sure of the root cause, or why it went away!
FWIW.

I am in Sweden and yes prices to buy things from US are crazy.
The factor is around times 2 when buy things from US incl. postage and customs.

Ah right. We have the same issue with imports, but most point sets are available locally. I'm surprised with the amount of older American iron over there that you can't buy supplies locally? I spent 6 weeks in Vasteras for work during your summer in 2012. Loved it! But I don't think I'd enjoy your winters so much...
