The picture is post #9 of this thread. Its a 78 or 79 that has had front and rear bumper covers replaced with custom fiberglass bumpers that emulate the chrome bumper cars. In the front, the steel impact bar could easily still be there, but on the back end, I doubt seriously if there is enough room for the large impact bar and shock absorber mounts that hold it.

I have no problem removing the small bumper pieces that bolt on to the large impact bar, but I agree with you that it would be very unwise to completely remove the shock absorber mounts and large impact bar. It would leave almost nothing except the very lightweight rear crossmember, which is flush with the fuel tank.
