Default Dewitts radiator mounting pins not threaded

My new Dewitts aluminum radiator (1139063M) has the two lower 'pegs' that fit perfectly within my '69 Vette (no air, 4 speed, SB) core support, however the pins aren't threaded on the inside to allow for accepting the bolts Is this standard, and I just need to tap the threads myself? I'm ok doing that but with the softness of the aluminum I'm a little concerned about damaging an otherwise pristine new radiator.

I think it was my 66 dont hold me to what car but one radiator i swapped the bottom pegs just slipped through holes no bolt in them the radiator was just held in by the top clamps,
If your was supposed to be tapped tom dewitt will stand behind it but i cant imagine it slipping by they are top notch.

Default On my 68 they were not threaded..

Just dropped into some cushioned spots (I changed radiators ages ago so I don't have that anymore). I used sway bar rubber (or was it shock absorber rubber) as "cushions" for a little while before I replaced the radiator.

I still have the old radiator - I can take a picture if you so desire.

The two lower pins each get one of the round cushions pictured below. The cushions are installed on the pins and then placed in the pockets in the bottom of the support. It usually takes a little pressure to get them to sit down in the pockets, when using new cushions.

The only thing that holds the radiator in place is the top support bracket. The square cushion below is positioned between the top support and the radiator.

Great replies everyone thanks so much!
Checking the original radiator - those lower pins were 'threaded' utilizing bolts to secure it to the core support...but that may have been a PO bubba mod.

I do have the lower cushions to use when reinstalling, and I'll go with top bracket only as the securing point.

Thanks again to everyone for the help.

Hi h,
I think you can be sure that the use of bolts threaded into the 'posts' was an owner added detail.
It might even be a bad idea since it appears the support of the radiator was designed to have it supported in rubber at the top and bottom mounting points.
Perhaps having it 'hard bolted' to the core support would fatigue the aluminum?

Alan
