Forgive me if this is a rookie question, but the bracket shown in the pic below has moved and became loose. Do I just move it to 90 degrees from the carb, and are the settings of the throttle cable messed up.
and just for kicks and giggles, what's the proper way to set throttle cable on a holley carb. Car is 77.
I'm in the middle of a 4l80e swap so I'm sure I'll have a ton of more questions. Thanks in advance..
does that bracket have a pin on the bottom? see the indentation in the carb just in front of the nut holding the bracket? thats where the Holley bracket fits into

yes it does have a pin. What's it for? And what indentation?
Hi VM
This was shown as the proper bracket for use with a Holley carburetor.
Note the throttle cable remains in a straight line.
Regards,
Alan
The arrow indicates the 'tab' that holds the bracket in alignment while the nut is tightened.
oh I gotcha. The wrong bracket is on my car, and the tab goes into the indentation that red vette racer spoke of. Any chance you got a part number alan?

long since discontinued, they are not hard to find (I probably have 3-4 of them laying around here) repops and the occasional genuine GM bracket can be found on ebay,

You might want to do something about that key chain ring holding the throttle cable to the carb linkage.
I'm pretty sure that's not factory.
I don't mess around with the throttle linkage. You don't want it to get stuck WOT. That will turn a nice cruise bad real quick.
Hi vnm,
You might want to take a look at the throttle connection as 'theandies' mentioned.
What you have is pretty haphazard.
Here's a typical original throttle cable connection to the linkage. There's a fitting on the carb linkage with a ball on it's end that clips securely into the cable.
It appears your's has been modified, but I'd think it could be made more secure.
Regards,
Alan
This is a q-jet so just look at the cable connection.

All '77 Corvettes left the factory with a Quadrajet carburetor on them. It looks like what you have is the bracket for a Quadrajet. This bracket locks into the base of the carb differently than the bracket for a Holley.
This is what the bracket for a Holley would look like...

Do you know of any way to adjust this setup for wide open throttle?
gunshp, the yellow arrow is pointing to a small bolt. The bolt is used to clamp the stationary portion of the throttle cable in place. Loosen the bolt and slide the stationary part toward the firewall. Finally, tighten the bolt and check for full throttle operation.
If this adjustment does not give you full throttle, check the carb throttle lever (blue arrow). Sometimes there is more than one hole to attach the throttle cable in. If it is in the upper hole, the lower hole will give full throttle using less cable movement.
Thanks a ton Alan, just ordered the bracket. Might as well do it right.

ok Alan gonna kind of revive this thread. I got the bracket you and the others reccomended and installed it. Now I noticed that my cable jas this weird block thing that notched in the other bracket but not this one. Also my return spring is entirely too long. Thoughts? And how do I determine how long or tight my return spring needs to be?
sorry in advance for the rookie questions. Here's a pic with the paragon bracket installed.

looks like someone forgot to tell you along with a bracket for a Holley carb you need a cable for a Holley carb....
Hi vm,
The cable in your photo appears to be the 74-81 cable.
During the years that engines were offered with both Q-jet and Holley carburetors I believe the same accelerator cable was used on all engines (except 3x2).
Perhaps (?) you're looking for 68-72 cable? (Paragon #2330 for instance.)
Will that fit/function in your car?

Alan
