The offset bushing looks ok but what prevents it from turning under heavy acceleration or braking? Is the rubber going to remain in the same position after say a year of use?

Cut your trailing arms in half and weld in the necessary steel plates to increase the length to centre your wheel in the wheel well. 1/2" maybe? Rod joints on your strut rods may work to correct the misalignment. Shock mounts should be ok with a slight reduction in travel. As you mentioned already, side axle misalignment should be corrected by the u-joints. Good luck.

I think the issue is that the trailing arm swings in an arc. When you lower the car the rear tire moves up and forward. At factory ride height it is less noticeable.
