Default Kick Panel Ventillation Dampers

Anyone have a good photo and/or explanation of where the cable assemblies attach under the shift console? The cables and dampers work fine on my 71 but were disconnected from the console and were therefore rendered inoperable when it was together. Now that it is close to reassembly, I can't readily tell where they fasten to the console and/or bracketry.

Any help?

The cables attach by the tabs to the "horseshoe" at the front of the console, then the rings on the cables go on the levers and are retained by a push on nut. If you don't have one, the Assembly Instruction Manual is a great resource for all the little goofy parts.

Roger that. AIMs are worth the price.

OK got that. Thanks for the feedback. So the horseshoe is the metal frame that the ventilation control unit attaches to? Do the tabs on the cables attach with a screw or bolt from the top or bottom?

Hi Howard,
At the shifter console end of the bowden cable the small black plastic 'flag' is fastened to the underside of the console, just forward of the control lever, with a single screw.
In the 71 AIM it's shown (not too clearly) on UPC 1 asm, Sheet E10, View A.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,

OK - I think they go under the metal frame assembly that houses the ventilation control cluster. Again, since I don't have the AIM, can you provide a brief description of the screw? I bagged and tagged everything and may have one. I think one of the levers was attached when I disassembled. Should have taken digital photos.

Hi Howard,
I'm sorry but I don't know what the screw looks like.

The vent cables attached on a non ac car to the two brackets located under the shifter console housing as shown in the picture below. If the car had AC this was different, the cables attached to the actual heater control housing.

Hi W,
Good photo!!!!
After seeing it I now can make out the little 'bracket' in the AIM drawing!!!!
Is it a machine thread or a self tapping???
Regards,
Alan
