One last post on my ongoing window regulator spring replacement, just so that the next guy to do this job will find the information that I couldn't. Long story short - my drivers side power window regulator spring was broken and the widow wouldn't stay up. Bought a new spring, removed the window glass, and the regulator assembly from the door. The problem was figuring out how much to preload the spring when installing it on the regulator. The first time I installed it, I preloaded the spring about 1/8 of a turn, reassembled the regulator and window, only to find the window still wouldn't stay up. Pulled everything apart again. (Went a lot faster this time - I'm getting good at it.) This time I installed the spring with an additional 1/2 turn of preload for a total of about 5/8 turn. It's not that hard. Mount the regulator in a vise. Used a large pair of slip joint pliers to wind up the spring. Have a large screwdriver and a small hammer ready to help get the tang on the end of the spring over the post. Put everything back together and the window works perfectly again. Hope this helps the next guy that has to tackle this job.

When installing window regulator spring, install spring with closed end of loop facing motor and 180 degree pre-load in up position.

Secure the regulator in a vice.
Have a helper hold the left side as you remove the BOLT.
Rotate the left arm then remove the old spring and reinstall the new spring
Turn the arm back to the starting position and reinstall the bolt.
