Black under hood paint

I like the underside same as body color. engine bay is brighter with some color.

If it bothers you I'd seek one of those shops that do body wraps.
Have the underside of the hood semi gloss black wrapped.
No prep no mess.
If you tire of it it peels off.
Done professionally it looks as good as a great window tint job.
Have you seen David Howards road race car?
That's a wrap it's so good it blew my mind it was a wrap. Looks better than a real paint job.
Just thinking out loud.

But was it a chrome trim that was painted from the factory? Can u paint over chrome ?

The trim is highly polished stainless steel that's been 'flash' chrome plated.
Yes, you can paint the pieces and have good adhesion.

'Flash' chrome is a process in which the layer of chrome plating is applied directly to the base metal.
In normal chrome plating the layer of chrome is plated over a layer of nickel and a layer of copper that have been first applied to the base metal.
This is where the phrase "triple chrome plated" comes from… the 3 materials. No platers are plating chrome on top of chrome on top of chrome.
You can see the 3 trim pieces being painted in these 2 photos. The bead that remains unpainted has been taped.

No, I'm not a painter.
I did the black-out on the car, but not the body color.
When I did my restoration I set out to do as much of the work as I could myself.
That required that I spend some time learning how to do things and being willing to do things over and over until I felt they were right.
The things I didn't do were powder coat the frame, 'make' the glass, do the chrome plating, and paint the body.
I really feel that painting is a 'learned' skill based on experience. I figured it would take me 4 or 5 tries to get the paint right so I searched for a couple of years for someone who I thought understood what I wanted the results to be. I was fortunate to find someone who mainly worked on Corvettes in his 1 and 1/2 man, and 2 dog shop, who still used acrylic lacquer exclusively.
He had the body for about 10 months. Fortunately it turned out the way I'd hoped.

Alan
