Default Headlamp cushions??????

Is there some sort of cushion that goes between the headlamp and the outer retainer? One of my high beams went out (thank you fiber optics!!!!) and I was messing with it and noticed the lamp is very loose. This may have caused it to go because of vibration. I have new lamps coming and don't want this to happen again.

Hi ta,
Are the headlight rings holding the headlights tightly in the buckets?
Are the buckets securely mounted to the headlight door?
Originally each headlight bucket had a heavy spring on it that I believe was intended to act as a 'shock absorber'.
There was one for each bucket.
Might this be part of what you're seeing?
Regards,
Alan

Springs are there. Its the ring holding the headlamp in the bucket. First picture.

No , no cushion as such .The stainless ring screws to the bucket in 3 places , sandwiching the sealed beam unit into the bucket .

the bucket is mounted with the two plastic pieces that hold the aiming adjuster screws and the 3rd point is the spring. So the two plastic pieces and the spring seem to be the only pieces that have any give at all .

It should not be loose at all , its a fairly heavy duty spring that was originally in there , what can happen is the spring breaks and the screw holding it into the housing gets corroded enough to not come out so a substitute spring is hooked onto what's left and is usually not as strong as original .

here's an example, original on right side , home version on left .

Short video of what's going on. I checked all the other lamps and they are tight. Also checked all the springs and they are all original and it good working order but I don't see how the springs would keep this from happening. Im going to take the low beam off and see if I'm missing anything but I don't think I am because I had both buckets years ago doing work on the front header bar.

I'll probably start by inspecting the bucket for damage and then trying to bend the lip of the retainer slightly. If that doesn't work figure out some sort of cushion to install.

it doesn't look like the original sealed beam type unit in there. So mods might have been done to get it to fit .

It reads halogen on the lamp so you are correct. I do have the proper lamps coming so that might be it. Thing is the other high beam lamp is fine as well as the low beams and they are halogens as well.
