Default EFI conversion question

Hi all,
I am about to install Sniper EFI on my car.
I have a MSD billet dist, question is, should i keep the distributor as it is with vac advance and weights, or lock it and use the built in ignition control in the sniper?
Anyone here done this?

It's always better to let the ECU control timing. It will let you optimize the advance with more control than vacuum & weights allow.

I'm not running the sniper but another system and am letting the ecu control the timing. Locked out the MSD unit and it works flawlessly. I have a forum members car in the garage right now and will do the same. Much better to let the ecu handle it.

I have one on order for my 67 impala. Holley said the demand has been way more then they ever expected. They said they are a month backordered.

Is the Ignition control on the sniper self learning or is it like the Fitech where you set the value and it stay's that way ?

Timing advance is not self learning.

Not to thread jack, but how is everyone driving the tach with an electronic distributor? Did you convert the tach to electronic as well? If you did, did you use the kit that Wilcox has or another. It that a good kit?

To the op, yes, definitely let the EFI unit control the timing. Assuming you can get the tach to run electronically somehow...

I bought a used 75-77 tach and swapped over a '71 face plate. The face plates are available new. Think I paid $35 for it.

Finally my Holley Sniper is in place and with the electric fuelpump that came with it, had a mechanical pump previously so it was quite a bit of work to install it, but with all parts from Holley it worked out just fine, first startup tomorrow, exited is an understatement!

Default Tach being fed from MSD 6...

I have an electric tach and I get the input to it from my MSD-6a. I did have to remove the "tach filter" because otherwise it would get bouncy. (I am using EZ-EFI 2.0 with a locked MSD distributor and an MSD-6 ignition box).

Finished with my Snipr EFI install!
Feels like a completly new car with 100hp more.
Throttle response is insane, it surprised me so at first testdrive i spun the wheels.
You wont belive the difference!
For you guys out there thinking about this all i can say is: Just do it!!!!
Worth every dollar spent!!!!!!!!

I use the pump that came with the kit from Holley, its a inline pump mounted on the hose from tank and not noisy at all.
Made a new feed line to the Sniper and used the old one as returnline to the gastank.

Did you run new fuel line? I ask because I should replace my SS flex line one of these days.
If new hard fuel line --- were you able to do it with the body in place?
