Default Power window issue

1975 Coupe - right side power window

With the door open or shut - when I put the window up - it stops moving with about 1/2 of an inch yet to go - to where it would be completely up.

YET the window motor will still run and it sounds like it's run out of "teeth" or something.

I haven't taken it out - trying to avoid that if possible.

I'm thinking either something broke or is out of alignment.

Never been into this area yet - so it's a bit spooky.

Any ideas of what I'm going to run into?

Thanks,

Len

the teeth on the large gear(C) may have sheared off. the upper stops may be set too low.
the picture shows what is inside. somewhere on this site there is a better picture of the door innards shown from the outer side.

Thanks for this. Hope I don't have to go that route. May get some time today to see.

You need a new regulator or a gear repair section, the top teeth are stripped off.

If you can hear the motor running and the window is not moving, the teeth are stripped off the gear.

Has anyone tried this repair?

http://www.parts123.com/corvettecent...50g&ukey=10163

I'll be pulling the old regulator out today... but assuming it is in "decent" shape, this part seems it will address the broken teeth issue.

It worked for me. My window was same as yours. Stopping short and still spinning. Works perfect now after fix. Takes a good afternoon

That repair piece looks like the best idea to me, shouldn't be too difficult, I'm guessing instructions would tell you which side of gear plate is best to install repair teeth, if your handy, I'm sure you could make your own repair piece too, , , really, it's 50yr old technology, pretty simple stuff, it will go well for you, enjoy the time tinkering on your car,,,,,,teddy

Torn between fix plate or replace the whole regulator.

Here's a picture of the regulator - including a close up of Grandma's teeth!

Makes me wonder what the left side looks like... I hate to think of it. This wasn't something that I had thought I'd be doing.

Only have had the car for a few weeks.... started out with replacing the AC with a Vintage Air unit (awaiting for it to ship).

The right door was messed up... couldn't lock it with the key, then if you happened to lock it - well that was that. Took out the latch - did some minor repairs there, now she locks and unlocks as she should.

Putting the window up and down while working on the stupid latch, well there ya go... Busted off some teeth on the regulator gear.

If the left side goes, at least I have a clue now what I need to do. There is so much more to do, that I'm taking the attitude that if the left blows, I'll deal with it then.

I think of it as character building.

The right side is probably in much better shape, it doesn't get used nearly as much. You won't be sorry if you just replace the whole regulator, the rollers and the arm pivot are likely worn also.

I went with new regulator from Willcox - they had them on special so I went for the full regulator - as opposed to the dentures.

Thanks Willcox!!!
