Default Finished 73 front bumper and grill for my 75 Vert

I just finished mounting up the grills in my new 73/74 front glass bumper. I used the 73 grills with the chrome edge.

I epoxied and glassed in bolts on the back of the bumper and made brackets to mount them. I moved the grills out further towards the front than they are stock on 73's.

The next mod on the bumper is being done by my bodyman. We are cutting the piece off a glass 75 bumper that goes back between the headlights and glassing it into the 73 bumper. It will mount just like a 75 to 79 bumper then.

My car has been held prisoner in a body shop for almost 3 years, but it is finally getting worked on and should be done this month.

Hi Mike,
The more 'flush' look is interesting!
It changes the appearance more than I would think!

Alan

I wanted a cleaner look than the 75 to 79 style bumper. I hated the bumperettes from the day I first saw them when the 75 Vettes came out. I have an 80 to 82 rear bumper on also along with an L88 hood and a Pace Car front spoiler. All Corvette styling cues, just from different years.

I feel the same way Mike, NO bumperettes for me,, I'm having a 73-4 bumper fabricated as a prototype that can be mass produced for guys that want that look on our 75-79's,, hope to have it soon,,, nice work on your grills, we still need front license plate in Ohio,, I hope to have a rear 75 bumper less the bumperettes also, soon,,,,,,BTW, Mike, what color was your 75 originally?

It was mille miglia red with a blood red interior. Was already black when I bought it. The previous owner thought the red was ugly. I would have kept it red if it would have been red when I got it, but I like black too, so that it's staying black.

I'm changing the blood red interior to the brighter 72 red leather seats, door panels, dash and console. I'm putting in new black carpet though.

The original interior is in very good shape, I just want it different.

Original interior.

What it will look like.

Mike,
The bumper looks really nice. Having the grilles out more flush really gives the bumper a smooth look. The grilles are exceptionally nice, are they NOS metal originals?

Looks good Mike; the chrome edge on the grills really sets it off.

60 Shark,

I didn't think about when I first read your reply, but a 75 to 79 rear bumper without bumperettes is basically a 74 one piece rear bumper, which you can buy in fiberglass already.

Yes, I agree, it basically is, I'm thinking the tail light housings in the 74 are not like the 75, and the landings for the "corvette" emblem vary across the years, thus saving a small amount of work to get the desired look,,, but, I would guess, most guys doing these mods really don't mind building their own, like we do.

I like the look but if it was me, I think I would have just bought this setup.

I've seen those front bumper kits, but I'm not really into trying to make my rubber bumper car look like something it's not. I just want it to look like what I think is the best look for a rubber bumper car to my eyes.

I've always thought the 73-74 front was a pretty clean look when the center grill was in place. It actually is the closest look to the Mako Shark II of any production car, to me anyway.

I was torn on the rear bumper. I thought about going to a one piece 74 style bumper with the pace car spoiler. I already had the 80-82 rear bumper though, so decided to stay with that. If I ever decided to put flared fenders and larger tires, I think I would change to the 74 bumper, pace car spoiler combo. I think with the front PC spoiler, L88 hood, flared fenders and the 74 rear bumper, PC rear spoiler, it would make for a very aggressive looking rubber bumper car.

Dropped the bumper off at the body shop today. Have my fingers crossed hoping he'll get it done quickly.

A man off my own heart,
I am doing the same thing on my #1 project care.
The 2nd one I am thinking of a C2 look by cutting up a trunk billet bumper I will use.

Txs for putting a picture to what I was thinking of,,,,,
