I just tried something that worked pretty well. Just pulled the weatherstrip out of the retainer and put windshield sealer strip "stuff" in the retainer then put the weatherstrip back in.

Barely noticeable.

This post came at a good time for me.
I have a pair of CRC B post weather strips to install on my 68 coupe.
I got them from Doc figuring he would have the right ones with all the carrying on he does over authentic weather striping and seals.
I have a nice fit at the A post and top of the T Top seal too.
I guess it's not going to be me if I get a gap in the B post seal.
Both my windows are original Astro Ventilation glass panes.
Hopefully I can get it plausible to the eye.
Thanks its a very useful thread.

Thank you for confirming what I mentioned about the flap angle.

What is sad is that if we try to let the weatherstrip manufacturer know they need to re-tool...we will be the ones who do not know what we are talking about and the parts will still be made screwed up.

Hope it works for you as well. Let us know how it turns out.

If this is a common problem, manufacturers definitely need to be informed.

You never checked back in. So, what did you find out when comparing the CRC to the NOS? Sounds like since others are having the same issue, the parts are no longer being made to original spec.

I had a hard time finding the NOS weatherstrip but today it was located. It was pushed backwards in the parts bin and so that the rubber would sit flat for a true measurement, I had to tape it to a retainer on the ends. When I took the measurement off the CRC door glass rear I made sure to tape it to the retainer as well.

The NOS weatherstrip in the center measured .686, the reproduction weatherstrip came in at .671 for a difference of .015. that is about the thickness of a match book cover so I don't think the part is the issue.

The old ones I took off of my '73 measured just about 7/8" (.875) at the thickest point and about 3/4" (.750) elsewhere. Their deteriorated condition suggests they could have been even thicker when new. The widest point was in the middle where it needed to be to accommodate the curvature of the glass. My measurements and yours tend to verify the approximate 3/16" gap I had after installing the new strips and before trying to adjust the glass. Something is amiss.

I had to pull both windows inboard at the bottom all the way to the limits of the adjustment to get the new weatherstrips to work which points to the weatherstrips being too thin. They certainly were for my car and some others who've posted in the thread.

I just got some weather strips from Willcox. I installed a new door glass at the same time I installed the weather strips. My glass is tight against the b post vertical ws. It may even be too tight. I'm still tinkering with the door glass adjustments though.

The bottom line is the weather strips from Willcox seem to be thick enough for my installation.

That's good to know. At least we know they are right for some cars. Makes me wonder why the difference?
