Default Correct Emblems

Hello, I have a 1976 Corvette. On both fenders there are crossed flags and on the nose is the same emblem. I have read that this is incorrect and it should say Stingray on fenders and red round emblem should be on the nose, that emblem appears on my fuel cap. I was told recently by an enthusiast that in 76' some Corvettes came this way, so now I'm stuck. Can someone please share some insight on this?

Thank You
Vette Guys

When was your 76 built? If it was a very late 76 and received 77 emblems, that would explain the incorrect emblems, though I'm not sure if that is something that would have actually happened or not.

77's had the cross flag emblems on the nose and fender sides, 76's had the round red starburst nose emblem and the "Stingray" fender scripts. NO 76's came with 77 flag emblems.

I'd guess that the flags were either installed by a previous owner, or the car was in an accident and had a used 77 nose installed on it (76 and 77 noses are otherwise identical).

The fuel cap has the red starburst emblem, was that also on the 77s? Just curious. I'm going to put the red starburst on the nose and stingray on the fenders not only because it's correct, but it's way cooler! I just wanted to hear what was correct and incorrect. Thanks gbvette62

No, 75 & 76's used the starburst emblem on the nose and gas door. 77's used the simple chrome crossed flags, on the gas door. The 77 gas door emblem is identical in size and shape to the 77 fender flags. The only difference is the gas door has two 1/4-20 studs on the back, and the fender flags have double sided tape and two short alignment pins.

Post a pic. of your interior to identify as a 76 or 77. The Stingray badge and crossed flag badge are not direct swap outs.
