At some point there was dark window tint applied to the windows of my 1970. What is the best way to remove the film with minimal clean up and/or damage to the original glass. It was also applied to the removable rear window.
I used a hair dryer to heat the tint and than I could peel it from the rear window in my 70. I have no clue if it's the best way but I had the tint removed and the window cleaned in under 20 minutes.
I asked a friend who used to apply tint for a living. He told me to use a scraper to remove the tint (plastic preferred but you will probably need a steel razor blade) and then window cleaner with ammonia in it will dissolve the adhesive left behind. I did my rear window and it worked well. Just be very careful if you use the razor not to scratch the glass.

The glass should be harder than the razor blade. It shouldn't be able to damage the glass. However, the diamond[s] in that ring you're wearing is a different story. Best to remove it before doing any work around glass.

how many guys you know wear diamond rings, I don't
I used small clothing/drape steamer to remove tint on my C5. They are $20 at Walmart.
Worked great, can also get most of the glue off, then used wd-40 to scrape off rest
with razor blade on sides, and dull plastic on hatch due to defroster.
We scuff up the tint with a razor and then take our commercial upholstery steam to it... Once you scuff it up the steam will get under it and take over... works like a champ...

The easiest way I have seen to remove tint is as follows.
Get a black plastic trash bag, like the big contractor bags.
Cut it down the sides to make a big sheet.
Spray your windows with water and stick the bag onto the window.
Now go let the car windows sit in the sun for about 1 hour. If you have tint on the whole car go ahead and do this to every window and close the doors. The purpose of this is to get the window headed up and it will make the glue easy to remove.
After the 1 hour mark go and using a razor blade remove the edge of the window tint. Then you should be able to pull the tint off as one whole piece with the garbage bag.
The remaining residual glue can then be easily remove with window cleaner. Most of the glue will stay with the tint.
