When I'm working under mine I either keep the wheels (if I have them off) or large wood blocks under it as well....No weight on them, just something to give me a fighting chance if it did fall. I also use 6 jackstands and make sure they are all carrying weight.
I plan to drop my muncie this winter.
Brian
Thanks Brian.
Hummm. Wonder where I could find a Railroad Tie around here. AND someone to cut it up for me.
Hi Steve,
The 'top' of my jack stands are 'cupped' just enough so they sit rather nicely in that area you have marked 'beveled'.
It depends on the configuration of the jack-stand though if that's an option for you.
The slotted hole that PB describes as being for the 'transport hook' was also used for the rear mount for 69 side pipe mufflers. ???
I use blocks of wood as a 'safety' too on occasion.
Can't really have 'too much' holding the car up!
Regards,
Alan

Hi Steve,
Here's the location I use for the rear stands on my 71.
It's near the rear of the 'hatched area' on the diagram, just forward of the rear end of the main frame rail.

Is it possible that the chasis would bend in the front if you don't use the suggested jacking points?
Hi,
I really wonder about just what sort of work can be completed using that system?
So many things we do require much better access to the chassis, that the weight of the car be off the suspension, and that the wheels be off the car.
?

That is why I used ramps at each wheel. If I needed to work on 1 wheel I would place a jack at that location only and work on the wheel required. When I remove the complete rear end, I placed 2 jacks to support the rear and a complete removal. Leaving the ramps for the front wheels. Also having access from the side it helpful as well.
The only use that I know of is the rear mount for factory side exhaust, which was a '69 only option, although they can be added to later C3's.
Thanks Roger. I'm putting some Hookers on, and now that I know what those holes can be used for, I'll come up with a fabricated Mounting Plate to hang them from.
