Well. I've decided to remove all aftermarket radio junk and opted to go back to stock. I found a really nice Delco green faced mono radio on eBay and had it rebuilt to original specs. AlI new speaker and power harness. Correct heat sinc. I even installed the correct 10 ohm dash speakers from turnswitch.com. And didn't forget new *****. Happy Camper.
Yes, it looks great! I am all for the stock look and have a stock am/fm stereo in my 72. I do have one question, where do you send it to be rebuilt/refurbished? Thanks
You guys know i dig my modifacations,
But some things i just cant warm up to on the classic c3s like big diameter moderm wheels,
And i have noticed i dont really like import tuner looking stereos in the c3s either,
What you did in your car looks good, like it fits and belongs there,
very nice!

Well my big question is, how does it sound, an honest assessment relative to a modern auto sound system? Can you crank it up enough to hear it over the tops off wind noise at 60 or so?

For the modern sound i just purchased a nice Bluetooth speaker to run off my iphone for that.
With no AC, off road mufflers, 4.11's and the windows down the radio is pretty much an afterthought. The new radio just looks out of place in the dash.
Hi V,
I agree that the original radio seems to go with the rest go the instruments and bezel!
It looks like you did a nice job installing it.

Alan
I was a stereo fanatic for many a decade, but long about ten years ago, I sold off my high end home stereo, and long about that time, I ditched the center gauges in my '72 vert, and have no tunes in the vette at all now, the two 6x9 speakers in the rear deck still there, along with the foam backing cups ....if you can hear the tunes, they too loud and are obnoxious to the guy next to you, as they are outshouting your exhaust, and since it IS a VETTE, you have to have next to NO mufflers.....:sm ash:

Honest answer is no.....it cannot be compared to a modern 2017 technology radio unit. When cranked up it sounds like it should. But I'm looking for originality not sound quality. Hope that helps.

I believe thats the thing, if the car is stock a moderen stereo looks about as out of place as a turd in a punch bowl, but when guys go after market gauges and custom dash tweaks then the modern stuff looks more at home,
I have seen your dash mrvette, it looks really good for that type mod,
I was in the nightclub music biz i have a club sound system in my house but never cared much about thumping tunes in my corvettes,
i loved the 81 cassette with built in cb radio, if i want music selection from an old head unit i have my mp3s lots of ways to get them there....
Mine did not come with 'stereo', so I sent mine out to 'a guy', who gave me much money for it and sent me back what I was looking for, this one. Like $150 trade difference and this one is reconditioned.
I swapped out an old 80's cassette deck for the original looking radio myself...I got lucky and picked it up a 74 stereo unit for about $25.....I was also lucky in that the PO didn't have to cut the gauge bezel to get the cassette installed. I put new dash and kick panel speakers in and got it all working good.....But I haven't even turned it on while driving.
