Hi Bob,
Welcome!
No need to apologize! If you post you're a member!
I guess the first question is to try to determine what the stamp pad on the engine looks like.
Is there any stamped information on the pad that might indicate the origin of the block and what car it was originally installed in, IF it did go into a car?
Generally if the engine left St.Louis in a car, the engine is of the most interest (value) to the present owner of the car…. if it still exists.
Regards,
Alan
A real l88 is worth more than a reg 427 but its buggest bang is find the car it came in. If otc then not as big a bang,
Documents make or break it for some,
Your either going to sell it to a person who needs what You have for a restoration or somebody who wants it for a high performance project. The Restoration people will pay a lot more than the HP people. There are a lot of L 88's out there that well really are not an L 88 and never were. To claim its an L 88 means that You are willing to put it under a lot of scrutiny and if that's what You are willing to do then this is as good of place as any. I'd start out with the Block Casting Number, Date Code and any Serial number it may still have.
