I've seen suggestions for 255 60r15s fitting front and back, what about 70r15s of the same size? I am only switching out my back 2 for now so I can't go don't to the 60-height. I'm assuming that would cause an unnatural rear height?
There's a teenager around the corner who has a '77 with 255/70r15's. They look too tall...and he's told me they rub the fenders. Go with 255/60r15 -- they're not an expensive size of tire...
There isn;t much difference between the sidewall height of the two tires. You probably won't notice the diff. I'd put the 255's on the back. It'll look fine.
"eventually I will get 3 more for front and spare"
I'm not sure that 255 will fit in the spare tire tub. You may want to ask about this in another post (or try to fit one of your new rear tires in there). If not, since the heights are so close, you may want to put one of the old 225 in as the spare.
But then who'll buy the 1 left over 225? :) Thanks, good idea, it doesn't seem like there's alot of extra room in there. And if I'm resorting to the spare I don't think I'll give a damn about the ride height, I'll more likely be dirty and hot and pissed off at the world! I know I was when I nailed the curb in my Camry (just recovering from a fever, not thinking well).
That does bring up and interesting point, what do you people with different front/back sizes do for a spare? Go with the front or just hope you're right? I guess the wider back might not fit in the thing...
"if I'm resorting to the spare I don't think I'll give a damn about the ride height" -- probably not, but some here have talked about problems for the posi-rear in handling two different size tires (true I'm sure, but depending on the conditions of where/when you have a flat, damaging the rear may be worth it).
"I nailed the curb in my Camry (just recovering from a fever, not thinking well)" -- are you blaming the fever on hitting the curb, or owning the Camry? ;)
