Hi, I am aware that this thread is from 2017, but maybe the the member with the CAI intake in the picture above will reply... Did it work, could You tell a gain in performance? This looks simple and functional to me... Alex

When I was running this setup I was doing a lot of HPD events, I was in the second fastest group where everyone is running on slicks. I passed a C6 that day with a natural aspirated 357 in my 6t8. I also think it helped keep the engine temp down consuming cold air, Never had any problem with overheating and were hitting speeds above 140 all the time, it was 85* that day. But then again a CTS just kicked my *** with his supercharged LS. Oh those were the days.T
Thank You very much for Your feedback! It seemed to be quiet functional then! You posted a link to the CAI that You ran.. Is that the exact one? They offer three types that look very indentical, Did You run it as delivered with the supplied tubing, or did You larger in diameter, I am sure it also depends breathing needs of the engine, i do rum a 383 with large valve heads and performer rpm intake, but i believe that Your engine is more agressive, so if it worked for You with the air volume that You got with this set up, then it should work for me too. Maybe You can reply Alex
It had 2 -4" snorkels, I thing the carb inlet size is 5 1/8" it's a 4150 series QF all parts were purchased individually, no kit that I'm aware of for C3 vettes and clamps needed to be fabbed up along with customizing the tubes themselves. T
I think I am goin for this one from Spectre... 4inch Tubing and 135 degree appart inlets, they also offer 120 degree and 180 degree angled inlets. The base is for a 3 x 14 inch air filter, so i should be even able to use my original GM open element 14 inch filter drop base, what is i am sure much better in quality... It should definetly draw cold air under speed driving conditions... what do you think? I still wonder what is the best angle for the inlets in the 71 engine bay, on the drivers side there is the alternator, and on the passenger side my a/c... 120° , 135° or 180° for the inlet stubs on the air filter housing
I love it when an old thread pops up in my email. Here is my new high rise hood with C7 vents.
Venting the hood eliminated high speed front lift (float) and makes your steering much more responsive.
Old school greenwood high rise hood the front intakes are fake and closed off but the vents at the top of the hood are real (Although I doubt they do a whole lot)

how did this work for the heat extraction. Is it noticeable?
My stock hood was done this way when I got it. It helped a little at low speed but at high speed cold air was going in. To benefit from the cold air it needs to be sealed to the air cleaner.

@Beejay, this is exactly what I am considering for my stock 73-75 hood, and I am trying to solve for the same problem with steering at speed.
can you tell me the dimensions of the c7 vent? I'm trying to see if that vent will fit the hood right above serp pulleys but before air cleaner set up.
