Looking for some insight into what could allow my seat to slide forward when braking. I keep the seat all the way back and when I brake hard the it will slam forward to the next "position" and lock in there. It seems to be holding when I put it all the way back and without using the lever it wont slide forward by hand, but any spirited braking and snaps forward. Any thoughts as to what could be wrong?
I would hate to abandon these rails as it is getting difficult to find replacements. There are some good guides here on rebuilding them (allvettes4me has great post), but not sure if there is a simple answer for this I can try out first. Almost forgot, these are seat rails for a '69 which aside from bolt pattern I am not sure makes a difference.
You are just going to have to take the seat out and look.
Something is in the way of the catch. Either needs realignment from a previous removal, spring tension needs adjusted or some foreign object has fallen down in there and is interfering.
On my 69 I found that the last rear notch on the seat track wouldn't engage. It was because the seat track had slipped rearward just a slight amount on the bolts and the seat back was up against the carpet for as much room as possible. Sometimes it would engage and sometimes not so I loosened the tracks and pried them all the way forward on the bolts, tightened up the bolts again and made sure the seat back rearward lean wasn't too much preventing the seat from engaging in the last position. Worked for me. Also gives you a chance to clean all the good stuff from under your seat....
Thanks guys figured it might be something along those lines. I will pull the seats and then take the tracks off to inspect and figure out what is going on. Appreciate the feedback and the pics.
CanadaGrant, that is something I would not have thought of but I could see how it would cause a problem as well. Thanks.
