Default making that hood scoop function

Anyone that ever had a LT or BB hood ever cut out the area between the first and second rise? Would think that the way the air passed over the hood would help draw out hot air from the radiator/fan area. like say the hood on the corvette summer car, those ones coming out the side if they were open would do a great job

Same with C2s...just curious. Dont think water or rain would hurt anything

These engine compartments are such heat sinks anything would help?

He (AKA fellow forum member- "rpol98" ) "used 1" slices off of 5" stainless exhaust tube, After squishing it in a vise, the slots are just over 3/4" wide.

Used some 14-ga stainless sheet for the face plate, and some stainless wire mesh.

EPDM foam rubber gaskets on both sides, nyloc nuts."

Here's some more pics-

I just added the L88 hood to my car and new seals the year before, the location of those vents is above the radiator so the only air it will be letting out is from the front of radiator. You can see where you seal has contoured to the bottom of the hood and right under the suggested area for the vents. I guess it could help reducing lift under the front of the car, anyone with these cut out notice if their car is running warmer than before?

Not if you mount the radiator like this-

I'm working on a cold air in and heat out hood right now...I'll keep you posted.

You beat me to that, i was curious if this would help or hurt, in my case i want the air to go through not over my radiator,

Can only do that by changing the bonnet hinging arrangement though (note bonnet pins in pic). Look forward to seeing what you come up with, I've been thinking about a heat/pressure extraction hood myself.

I was thinking about something like this but wasnt sure if the headlights would still be functional, and now that I see a pic the radiator hose would be the first obstacle to get around clearing the hood for traditional mounting. (not a fan of hood pins)

That radiator is right where the front of the hood goes when you open it. You'd have to either go to a complex hinge (that lifts the bonnet up as it opens) or a rear hinged hood if you wanted to retain hinges with that radiator location. As you note, room might also be limited for headlight actuators or motors.

I had looked at doing this type of radiator set-up.

There's a couple of options

This one is only about 10" tall- or you could do like the a lot of the kit car guys are doing and run two small radiators- one on each side- angling in towards the center of the car and down.

Re-arranging the headlight's "arm" to place an electric motor out of the way is not an issue at all.

Agreed the headlight issue is easily overcome. Can't quite picture what you're suggesting with the radiator, but sounds good! I definitely wasn't suggesting it couldn't or shouldn't be done at all, I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

Do you know whose car this is or what those bars crossing the engine compartment are for?

It was at the Walter Mitty-Road Atlanta this year...It's a funky torsion bar front suspension- looks just like my Chevy Avalanche's but upside-down!!!

here's another pic-

Default Keeping that beast cool!

I like the idea of mounting the radiator like they do in the Lotus cars. Having the down force increased on a C3 is important as they lift at speed.

I would like to see a smaller radiator and mount two auxiliary cooling radiators near the gills on the early cars. I have toyed with mounting an oil cooler on one side and a cooling circuit mini-radiator or a Power Steering cooler on the other side. Why have those vents on the side of the car if you don't use them?

I have a real Factory 1968 L-88 Hood and intake system on my car so I do not dare to cut it up. I wish they had simply put drains on the hood's low points to keep water from sitting on it.
