I have an A.I.M. for my 79, but it is difficult for me to find things in it. Is there anyone out there that has the decoder ring or can school me on the best way to navigate through it? Thanks.
Mine for my '73 is horrible as well... it's difficult for me to find anything without just paging through looking for drawings close to what I'm working on at the time..
There's probably some method to the madness, but it escapes me.
This is exactly why I did the pdf's in OCR. So you can find stuff.. Our Assembly manuals on CD have been run through the Optical Character Recognition.. and then we added key word searches to it...
So if you want to find Dash pad.. you search Dash pad and it'll pull all the pages.

It's great that Willcox has made life easier by putting the AIM on CD.
Here's an index that was posted years ago.
It may be off by a few page numbers but it might help.
There is no "magic bullet" for using the AIM. You first have to understand what it IS:
This is a document used by the final assembly plant to assemble the car in the sequence in which it was assembled. The AIM only has info related to the final assembly of the vehicle; pre-assembled items that were procured from other GM plants DO NOT have detailed info on them in the AIM (engine, transmission, other sub-assemblies).
The AIM is constructed per a 'base' vehicle with no options and the L-48 engine with manual transmission. The last sections of the AIM show all of the additional/different detail for vehicle "options". So, you can see how the 'base' assembly was done and then you might also need to access the 'options' section to determine other detailed info relative to your vehicle's configuration.
Is this the best design for a document to show you how to "repair" your car? NO. Is there anything better available? NO.
P.S. The more you use it, the better you will become at making use of it.
