1972 key warning SWITCH, is it needed?
Took the steering column out to rebuild. My key warning buzzer never worked. Sometimes you get lucky. Can I rebuild the column without installing the key warning switch? Will everything else still function properly?
If you think this a dumb question, wait for the next one.

The key warning switch is normally open when there is no ignition key in the lock cylinder. When you insert the key, a plastic tab extends from the lock cylinder and closes the key warning switch. If you do not install the switch, the circuit will always be open and you will have no warning buzzer. Nothing else will be affected.

Over the last 43 years I must of removed a thousand of these things, along with those obnoxious chime modules. Won't hurt anything.

There is no "need" for that switch if you don't mind that leaving your key in the car and then opening your door will not cause it to buzz (making you aware of the key still in the ignition....BEFORE you lock your door).
