Default Tach needle broken

I have a 69 bb coupe. I was driving this morning and while accelerating up to 4500 rpm the tach needle broke off. The dial and bottom portion are still there.

First wondering what caused it to break. As far as I can tell there is nothing it would have touched to bind it. Second I'm sure this is not an easy repair. Will involve removing the entire dash to get the gauge cluster out? The needle is a $20 part on Zip Corvette.

Hi B,
As to why the needle broke???
The repair will be involved because the access to the front face of the gauge requires that the dash pad be removed and then the tachometer body removed from the pad.
Not pleasant but better than a sharp stick in the eye!
Regards,
Alan

Once you get to this point the repair will be straight forward but then it needs to go back in place.

Yeah I've read up on it a bit. Just want to make sure it doesn't break again.

Same thing happened on my 64 about 20 years ago. Couldn't find a replacement (one year only). So i crazy glued it back on and it lasted until about a month ago...
