Default Wiper door

Along with my electrical issues, the wiper door stays up all the time. Engine on and off. Hopefully just a loose vacuum line??

Have you checked the over ride switch at the bottom of the dash?

Hi r69,
The stalk/**** on the right is the wiper door vacuum override.
It needs to be pushed 'up' for the door to close.
Is this a new problem?
Have you worked on the wipers or under the dash recently?
Regards,
Alan

With the engine off, can the door be pushed closed, or at least partway?

Thanks for the suggestions. The **** is pushed in. The wiper door is up and you cannot push it back down. Very stiff. Do not want to break anything.!!

Do not do anything until you can at least get some movement out of the wiper door. It may even help if you disconnected the vacuum hoses leading to the wiper door actuator. Do not remove the wiper door from the linkage, you could break the attaching bolts, causing more headaches. Remove the wiper grill and you can access the pivot linkages to apply penetrating solvent. It may take some time.

My guess is you did a search on this topic. There are countless threads that will give you bit's and pieces of the puzzle that is wiper doors.

If you can't push it down while the engine if off (or vacuum hose disconnected from the actuator) then the linkage is binding or frozen. It doesn't take much force to push it closed with the engine off. Check that first as suggested then when it's free and still doing it you can go from there.
Year model and if it worked before or not will help us too.

It's a frustrating problem but when the door works it a beautiful thing that wows people because it's just so darn cool. Styling like this is a lost art.

Hi,
Over the years I've been lucky enough to have quite often been a part of Operations Section judging for 68-72 cars that are being presented for Flight Judging.

I STILL get a smile on my face when that wiper door pops opens and the wipers come 'sliding' out!!!!!

Regards,
Alan
