Default my 69 stopped running

I think it is a gas delivery problem , If I pour a little in the carb it starts.

I replaced the fuel filter , and it ran well ...for two minutes...
Next I rebuilt the carb and it ran perfectly for 5 minutes,,I turned it off, started it 5 more time over the next few hours,,started every time...

Today I started it , first crank and its running...for about a minute..now it won't start.

.So I took off the fuel filter , put a clear line on the output of the pump and cranked the engine over..It pushed gas up about 6 inches above the engine height and did not pump any higher...

Does anyone know what I should be seeing? Is there a max height the fuel pump pushes gas... ?

Any input would be greatly appreciated..Thanks in advance

You should have 4 to 6 psi of fuel pressure with a stock pump.

I would venture to guess it's fuel pump time.

I would check the lines and sock in the fuel tank as a start.

In order of priority, here are the 'big ticket' possibilities:

1. clogged fuel filter (if you swap the one out in your Q-Jet, make sure you install it with the 'sealed-end first' into the carb).

2. Kinked "S" hose at the fuel pump (this should be a molded hose; if someone tried to put regular hose in this spot, it won't work for long).

3. Fuel pump defective. Use Vise-Grips (add padding for jaw teeth) to clamp off the fuel flow into the fuel pump. Remove that feed hose to the fuel pump. Loosen jaws (bucket underneath!) to see that fuel freely flows to the pump. If is does, you have no problem with the tank/sock. If it does NOT, you have a tank/sock problem or a 'venting' problem.

4. Carb problem. Would have to be float stuck in UP position. No other way that it would not run at all [IMO].

5. Fuel tank is not vented...creating a vacuum in the tank which will prevent fuel flow. Car with a fuel vapor canister uses that canister as the tank vent. Remove that system and you have NO tank vent.

6. Plugged 'sock' filter in tank outlet.

7. Other 'weird' possibilities...

thank you gentlemen...i will try the carb filter tomorrow..I will vent the tank. the old fuel filter had a vent line on it that I had to plug ( I thought ) because the new filter did not have a vent connection. If those attempts fail I will replace the fuel pump...
