Default Adaptability Question

78 L-48, Stock with all emissions removed. Vapor canister removed with vented gas cap.

Tired of the fuel smell in the garage and going to reconnect my vapor canister. My question is since there are no emissions connected can I use a canister from a 74-77 vette. Can buy original delco for about $60 which is cheaper than rebuilding my original, new purge valve, charcoal etc.

Have already tracked down & repaired other fuel leaks.

The earlier canisters only have 3 hookups which I think is all I need. Tank connection, to carb bowl & vacuum source.

Am I thinking correctly or am I missing something? Thanks,

If the tank connection in the engine compartment is blocked off the lack of canister is not your problem. Cars had vented gas tanks for years without having a gas smell. Are you sure you Quad doesnt have leaky casting plugs causing the gas to drain into the intake, assuming you havent a leak somewhere else?
You have looked at the fuel pump for leaks?

Yes the quad did have a leak at the throttle shaft. Had rebuilt, no longer a problem. Found and repaired couple of other leaks in the fuel lines. Car is black, after driving in hot sun then parking in garage is when get the fuel smell and can smell it at the cap

how did you find a vented cap for a 78? it sounds like the seal on the cap is bad.
