Steering column part
#21
"The column would have to be taken apart so you can watch how the lower portion of your column rotates ( that is hidden by that plastic cupped shield) and see what is causing the inability of the lock cylinder to be able to turn...which can be due to the toothed slide on the left side of the column on the inside."
I was just asking which part that is in the picture.

part number 37 and 34.
These parts come into play when you turn the ignition lock cylinder. AND if they are messed up...your 'lever' may be fine but the ignition lock cylinder will not go back all the way. They also work in conjunction to your steering wheel lock also.. the pin that moves to lock the column when the key is out of the ignition.

This worked pretty well. Get yourself some threaded rod (1/4-28) and a 1/4" x 1/4-28 Heim joint, two 1/4-28 nuts and two washers, and install it where the cable would be. It holds the lever in place, and doesn't require putting the car in reverse to get the key out of the ignition.

Black arrow pointing to that metal cover
Here are some more pictures inside the column on the left side (where the toothed rack is). That metal cover just to the end of the rack is a weird difficult piece to put in and seems it could get jarred also, causing the ignition switch to hang up maybe. Hope this helps
