It's been a LONG time since I've posted on this forum, glad to see it's still here!
I need some help trying to figure out why my throttle occasionally gets stuck. This is on a '72, pretty much stock and trying to keep it that way. Does this look right to you guys?
Is it possible that the carb is not accurately centered on the mounting studs? I've seen carb throttle plates bind with the insulator gasket between the carb and intake, if the carb/gasket/intake are not well aligned.
return spring is too big,i thought it should have been mounted on the little arm in the bottom at the 5pm area,,and try disconnecting everything from the carb, take off the aircleaner and with a flashlight open the throttle by hand and look down openings to look for any binding,,does the carb return to closed by its self?
Hi t,
In addition to the placement of the spring that dmxx mentions it also appears the 'tube' is missing from the front connector of the accelerator cable.
Might this be causing the cable to 'bind-up' under certain conditions and certain points in it's travel?
Regards,
Alan
Q-jet cable…. is the same as the LT-! cable.
The spring is the same too.
Thanks for the replies.
I was thinking a spring should go where dmaxx mentioned. I'd like to see how other LT-1 owners have their setup. The carb will return closed most of the time, but it'll get stuck sometimes if the gas pedal goes all the way to the floor. I can't seem to easily reproduce the issue though.
At one point I did have a tube over the cable, but it got jammed up on the other end and the throttle wouldn't release. I cut it off to avoid that problem again.
I'm not an expert on this, but I think you should also check the parts besides the linkage. I've had my carburetor get stuck with the engine running a steady 1,500 to 2,000 RPM. I've had to lubricate the area with the rod attached to the throttle plates every 1-2 years. Perhaps something besides the linkage is getting stuck.
