Default New heater/defroster valve built wrong?

I just bought a new push/pull vacuum diverter valve that controls the flapper for the heater/defrost selector in the heater box of my 69 vert (non AC car). It appears that the part that attaches to the flapper was installed 90 degrees off? Has anyone else seen this? Do I have the wrong part, or was this one just built wrong?

This one was purchased thru Zip, if that makes a difference. I'll call them in the morning, but wanted to get some feedback here first...

Thanks in advance!

Send it back. Just how hard is it to assemble 3 pieces together? Yet another repop nightmare.

Hi B,
The configuration of the reproduction in your photo appears to be the same as the actuator shown in the ZIP catalogue.
This is also the configuration of the one shown in the Corvette Central catalogue.
Can the clevis be pivoted so the connection is oriented properly without damaging the internal seal?
???
Regards,
Alan

The orientation of your replacement matches my original. Although my car is a 1968. Are you confident you were originally did not get twisted? I just attempted to twist my original, but am unable to do so.

OK, so it appears this is one for a 68, even though both the catalog and this part state 69-76. The actuator doesn't appear to spin. I didn't notice that the catalog picture was oriented differently - everything else looked identical (except for the missing posts, but none of the repops seem to have those).

This is frustrating more than anything. I should have had this buttoned up last weekend, but I found the Spectre Premium heater core didn't fit (tanks were too big), and then I found I needed the actuator replaced. I ordered both from ZIP, planning on putting it all back together this weekend, and now I get to wait another week...

Thanks for the help everybody!

Hi B,
The Paragon link that NX posted seems to show an actuator with the clevis oriented parallel with the nipple… might you give that one a try?
More waiting?

Alan

Yep, just ordered the actuator from Paragon (Zip didn't have any more actuators in stock to check for correct orientation). Unfortunately, Paragon didn't have any shipping options other than 'standard ground'. Hopefully it arrives by next Friday - I have a car show that I want to enter the vette in over Labor Day....so I need to have the dash all put back together by then (although my son would prefer I miss it - he's entering our (his) 79, and doesn't think it will do good against the 69).

Well, strike two - Paragon e-mailed me to say that their part is out of stock, and won't ship for another 7-10 days.... Judging by pictures, every other vendor is selling the wrong product (or just haven't updated their pictures)...who knows what part I'll end up with from Paragon. Willcox didn't have a picture, but their p/n matched CorvetteAmerica, which looks wrong. I might try fabricating something out of aluminum to adapt this thing to work...

So....what did you end up doing? I am at exactly the same point and bought one quite similar from Corvette Central...just missing the pins on each side that the hose fitting attaches to.

I ended up waiting for the part from Paragon. It was the correct part, so well worth the wait. None of the vendors carry the 'exact original' with the studs (I think they were just there to help keep the hoses attached).

So was the one from Corvette Central 'quite similar' to the incorrect one, or the correct one?
