My '75 has a horrible dual exhaust system installed. I am going to order a reproduction side exhaust system. $2800.00 + or - Can you give me any insight on things I may need to consider before I place my order? Headers are not an option for me on this car, I am going for an original look under the hood. Thanks
Here is my 72 with the fiberglass covers. I painted them black using Krylon 1613. They have insulation on the inside. Mine came from Allen's. I am very happy them but I still will get a OEM set one of these days.
Hi B,
With the fiberglass 'covers' as with the original 'covers' you need to take care in mounting the pipes and positioning the covers so that the bottoms of the mufflers aren't visible below the bottom edge of the covers.
It takes some work but the covers CAN cover the mufflers completely.
Regards,
Alan
These are pipes and covers bought over the counter in 1971. I painted the covers when the chrome plating began to fail. The covers have Krylon 1613 on them.
I sure do like the looks of the factory style side exhaust. My car has a new dual exhaust system installed but the front pipes come off the manifolds and go straight back. So close to starter and transmission. It has to go. I am going to pick up the system today I hope.
You may need to do some trimming of the lower fiberglass flanges right behind the front wheels to get the covers to fit correctly. This area is shown in the 69' AIM and was trimmed at the factory. I realize you do not have a 69', just commenting that you may have to do some trimming. The trimming will no be seen with the covers installed.
