maybe your question is clear to others but for me I need to know are you talking about drive shaft u-joints or half shaft u-joints. If drive shaft, trani end or rear end, if half shaft, differential or wheel.

Is it because of different size universals ?

Do you mean the yoke on the diff or the trailing arm? Or is this on the half shaft itself?
The length of the half shafts changed for the 80-82 cars, they also have different u joints depending on year and transmission.
Why do you keep saying flange? Do you have a flange at the trailing arm? On a stock '80 there shouldn't be a flange, you should have a yoke like the diff end does.
A photo may help.

the outer half shaft flange wasnt listed in the Dec 83 Corvette parts book and i cannt find it either from the aftermarket vendors. You may have to buy a complete half shaft with the flange already installed.

OK I just won the bonehead of the year award. I'm working on 3 cars at the same time , 1980 , 1977 and a 64. I put the trailing arms I rebuilt for the 77 on the 80 . the flange on the 77 trailing arm requires it to be bolted on. the 80 universal sits in the trailing arm flange. I was scratching my head on this one . Thanks for the help , My screw up.
