Power Steering System Torque Specs??
Hi,
What are the torque specs for the tapered bolts on the power steering system cylinder (connects to drag link bar? with a castle nut) and control valve (connects to steering box pitman arm with a castle nut)...or how do you know it's seated? This is on a 69. I'll periodically check but I've basically got everything as tight as I could but I don't know how tight is right?
Thanks.

30-40 ft-lbs is all that is specified for those castle nuts. Tighten to 30 and then tighten a bit more to line up the next available slot for the cotter pin.

I tighten the nut to 35 ft/lbs then advance the nut until I can put the cotter key in. But to make it easier to remove in the future coat the tapered pin and hole with Never-Seez first.

35lbs isn't much...I guess I should back that down a bit? I haven't torqued anything just yet, but I tightened it down pretty good with a wrench then got the cotter pins in. I'm sure It's more than 35lbs though.
