I'm with you brother, and you are right about Dub. Add Wilcox to the list of experts too along with many others. The C3 Forum is a good thing to have in your tool box.

Honestly I think that it needs to be at battery voltage....and not 8.5 volts The fuel pump needs 12 volts.

Electric motors... such as a fuel pump motor REALLY need all the voltage they can get and if the voltage drops too much...the efficiency of the pump greatly reduces. IF the voltage is less than battery voltage at the connector that plugs into your sending unit...that is telling me that you have a dirty connector somewhere....and the fact that because you applied 12 volts from your battery charger to make the fuel pump run does not matter...that is telling me that the pump is bad...or has a dead spot on it and the minute you tap it ( much like a power window motor) it works again...or it is the connector on the fuel side of the sending unit is bad.

Also...not wanting to be a smart@ss...the light bulb on your coffee table lamp two days ago also worked.... but when you went to turn it on today... the filament burnt out in it. Sometimes things can burn out that fast on some components. And that is coming from a guy who deals with 'stuff' going bad right while the Corvette is in my shop is having something else repaired. It makes no sense...but it happens.

IF your problem still persists....let me know if you want more help...if looking at otehr threadas and teh iunternet give ioyu nothing.

I looked at the 1982 shop manual today and as like has been previously mentioned..there is a way to get the electric fuel pump to run and by-pass the factory circuits if needed.

You are aware that there is a FUEL PUMP fuse a the very top of your fuse panel. There are 2 fuses at the very top and the top right one is your fuel pump fuse and it is 10 amp.

Guys...I'm an Engineer...I need you guys (those who are having problems) to seriously look at the GROUND CIRCUITS to (say) the fuel pump and relays et al.

EVERYBODY gets so concerned about how many volts on the FEED LINE. Okay, rightly so...like DUB says " you really should have about 12V going to the FP and or Relays or both."
HOWEVER...you are checking with a meter...EVEN if it says 12V DOES NOT MEAN THAT NEGATIVE! 12V is routing back to chassis ground nor the battery. {Its routing back through your meter}

SO...if you are checking ANY system on a Vette, who's body is NOT the ground, the chassis is...YOU MUST run a jumper wire from the NEGATIVE part of the circuit to KNOWN GOOD chassis ground or better yet, the neg term on the battery.

If it works THEN....BINGO....bad ground circuit.

Remember you can push 12Volts and .00001 amps and the meter will still read 12V! Volts is the size of the 'hose' amps is the flow rate through the hose.

Good luck Sirs! UnkaHal

If THAT doesn't describe a 35 year old car on the cusp of modern technology nothing does. Now to get to work on it.

Here's to a 10 amp Fuel Pump fuse on the main fuse panel that lost all its anti-blow properties and caused my fuel pump to quit. Hopefully it is a fluke that occurred while troubleshooting my fuel sender/fuel gauge issue. I think I'll work on something else for a while.

EXACTLY!!! I appreciate you bringing that up.

I encounter problems in electrical issues from time to time where....a wire will have 12 volts.....it will ohm out perfectly so I know it is a continuous wire....BUT...18 out of the 19 strands of copper that make up that gauge of wire are broken...and when the component needs to power up and work...it commands so many amps that that single strand of copper can not allow the part to get the AMPS it needs.

You did not need to remove your cigarette lighter if you were looking for the ALDL connector...all you had to do was poll out your ashtray.

Have you obtained a wiring diagram yet???

To post a photo..the way I do it is to save it in my computer....then...the yellow box that looks like a mountain inside of it right above where we type out our posts...in the task bar....'click' on it and a screen will come up....you have a choice of getting the photo from a URL or 'browse your device' and find it in your computer.
