Super T-10 Removal Question
It's been so long (at least 25 years) since I've removed a C3 Trans - I think I'm having a mental block....... boy, now that I'm 50, the mind is starting to go!! )
I was in a car accident back in Jan 2015 and am still having back problems so I'm actually getting ready to sell some of my "duplicate C3 stuff" - Frame, Manual Trans, Flared Body etc and I'm in the process of moving the frame and other items from one garage back to my home, I can't seem to remember if the trans was a close or wide ratio. (Original setup was , "I thought" L48 and close ratio).
On the rolling frame, I have the 4 bolts on the trans out, along with the trans mount bolts, and the engine supported. Bell housing is still connected.
Can I remove / slide the T-10 back so I can verify the marks / lines on the spline, and then slide it back without any issues ? (I've slid it back about 3" or so but stopped and figured I'd ask just in case).
I think I've done this in the past without any issues on various old manual transmissions , but for the life of me I can't remember. Will the clutch fork, throw-out bearing etc "stay in place" without "shifting / moving" so I can verify the marks on the spline then slide the trans back in?
Just thought I'd ask to be sure... (Boy, getting old sucks - very frustrating that I can't seem to remember something as simple as this!)

Thanks for the input...

I believe the side of the transmission case at the rear right-side flange will have a stamp indicating how the transmission was originally assembled/built. 2 letters indicate close or wide ratio.
(Is that what you're trying to determine?)
Have you looked for those?

Alan

Thanks for the confirmation everyone. I thought I could remove the trans and then reinstall - but it's weird when you just can't remember things like that!! I just wanted to check to be sure.
Alan 71,
I'll have to check for that code. I was always under the impression that (Unlike the Muncie Transmissions) that there was no code to identify close or wide ratio. I always thought the spline was the only way to tell. I'll check for any codes as soon as I get home..
Thanks to everyone., Better safe than sorry. Not that it's a hard job (especially on a bare frame), but I just wanted to take a quick peek. Thanks again.

Hey I hear ya'.
I did have a chance to look this morning and can't seem to any code that would verify ratio. I did hear that in the past and always thought was a bit odd.
At first it didn't look like it was going to "go" but after jacking up the engine a bit more to a little better / straighter angle, I was able to pull the trans out and verify it has 3 rings on the input splines - making it a wide ratio. It pretty much went right back together as well.
