1971 Headlight question
4 lights: 2 on each side. The inner lights only works as high beams. The outer lights light up both at low beam and at high beam. That is the way it should work, I guess.
My passenger side outer light does not light up at low beam but only at high beam. I wonder if it is a faulty bulb or a faulty connection. I can't tell if the light has two filaments in it (one for low and one for high beam) in which case, the low beam filament may just be fried. If there is only one filament however, that would mean that the problem is not in the bulb.
Any thought?

Hi A,
There IS a difference between the outer/inner headlamps.
Outer:
High Beam and Low beam #4002.
Inner:
High beam #4001.
Perhaps..swap the 2 headlamps and you'll know if it's the lamp or not.
Regards,
Alan

I have the exact same issue today.. Except my driver's side high beam isn't working either, which may or may not be a bad light.
I will have to swap them as Allen suggested.
Let me know the outcome!

I thought of swapping the bulbs indeed but the plastic shroud in in the way and it looks like I can't remove it without removing the whole headlight set. I removed the four screws that hold the shroud in place but it is like a puzzle to get it out of that space. Any idea?

Hi A,
Typically the headlight bezel should be free to lift off once the 4 screws that attach it to the housing are removed.
Is the bezel 'trapped' by the opening in the hood surround?
Some times this is caused by the headlight not opening quite far enough.
???

Alan

I would say it is because they do not open far or high enough. The bezel gets trapped indeed.
I have figured out the problem as to the bulb. I just need a new bulb. I will have to figure out the best way to get to it.
Thanks for the help.

Another question:
While working on the bulb issue, I have noticed that I have a spare female 2-prong socket that comes out of the headlight harness but is not connected to anything, just hanging there.
It is not for the park light nor for the marker light that are both connected and working. I wonder what it is for. I have one on the passenger side and one on the driver side. They get 12volts when I turn the lights on.
Any idea?
