Default '79 Heater Hoses help

I posted this in the general section as well, but it probably makes more sense here

I changed out the heater valve and hoses today on the '79 but I need a hand. I have an "S" tube that came with the parts I ordered but the car did not have one installed. I found it in the assembly manual (number 7, attached) but cannot seem to figure out how it gets installed. If anyone has this "S" tube installed, can you post a pic or PM me?

Thanks,

Jim

Jim - here is a pic of my setup, 1978 L82. Just a hose running off the water pump through a nipple.

Hi Jim,
Is this it?
It APPEARS the purpose of the tube is to route the coolant OVER the duct for the air cleaner and then UNDER the a/c compressor bracket.
If this were done with just the hose it would 'kink' because of the sharp bends required.
Maybe?
Regards,
Alan

The configuration of the tube in the photo appears to be a bit different than the one shown in the AIM.

I think that's your air conditioning line. My '79 doesn't have a solid line in the heater hoses. Possible it was removed at one time though. I'm far from the original owner.

I'm pretty sure I have that s pipe on my '80. I'll look and post a picture. That hose in the picture above that runs on top of carb air intake looks like an AC hose.

The s pipe connects to the water pump with a short rubber hose, routes behind the compressor then goes up and the top of the s pipe points back towards the firewall.

Matt81, thanks. That is how I have it now.

2airtime2, I am going to place it in as you have it and see how it goes. There is also a bracket attched. Is yours free hanging or screwed down? I will send pix later.

Jim

Is this a change for the 79 Model Year? My 78 L82 doesn't have that metal tube.

Default Heater Hose "S" Pipe

Hi 2airtime2

I've been trying to figure out just how the "S" pipe goes in the heater hose, I'm replacing both, the AIM is really vague in regards of it's installation, some po had removed mine, and had the hose pinched between the bottom of the A/C bracket and "A" arm. I have found the pic. you had posted in a reply to another member, did your pipe go thru the lower opening in the A/C mounting bracket?
Attached is a photo of how I think it goes
Appreciate any help

Thank You
Brian

The 'S' pipe feeds though the opening between the exhaust manifold and the a.c. compressor. It is attached to the a.c. compressor.

My '79 L82 (late production) is the same but I'm sure at least a portion of the hoses had been replaced before I replaced them entirely. My assembly manuals are from '78 and '80 as the on-line source I found did not have '79. Anyhow that pipe is not included in either. Perhaps it it was a part year only item. I know that '80 was a "weight reduction" year and that some of the minor smaller/lighter/alternate material parts for '80 [seem] to be in my '79.;

You have the correct spot. It goes though right where your red arrow is.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply, my '79 is an early production, you could be right (part year only item) probably most "s" pipes were done away with (if they were originally installed) by PO with hose changes, just easier to run the hose right to the water pump. Mine was partially pinched between the bottom of the compressor and A frame, I'm sure sooner or later it was going to wear thru.
Well at this point It's all back together and no leaks so far.

Thanks again
Brian
