Am I doing this right
Full throttle
Push the pump lever all the way down
Adjust to 015 clearance.
No real play at idle .
Is this the right way
Thanks 3x2
You left out something but I assume its a Holley. You are correct. The idea is that with little to no play at idle, you will not get any hesitation when you stab the throttle. Then at full throttle you want the .015 clearance so as not to rupture the pump diaphram. To get it perfect at both ends of the spectrum I find that 0.015 is a little on the tight side with the feeler gauge. But its right.

Just to add, you also need to have the proper size squirter in order to eliminate the hesitation. But before this, you need proper timing in the ignition system.

The timing is fine, the carb need s to be adjust ed propely
Pulled the carb back off ,guess what the power valve from the kit
Was 7.5. I put the old 6.5 in ,put it back on ,fought with the dam fuel lines
Started up fine, got the idle jets down to 1turn out. From 4. Everything is fine so far. It runs great.
Yup. That 7.5 was coming in a little too soon. I hope your kit is all Holley original parts.
I found out why those EBay power valves were so cheap. Not accurate to vacuum response.

Bought the kit from Chicago carburetor, less than impressed
Wrong float adjuster valve
Wrong power valve.should have bought from Holly
Oh well it’s done with no leaks.
