Default 68 speed warning speedometer disassembly

looking for some help to disassemble 68 speed warning speedometer to fix the worm gears .I have done my 69 speedo but do not want to break the 68 speed warning one. Thanks in advance. Sug

If the first worm and magnet are shot, replacing the second worm will only be a band-aide. But if you are taking this apart, the link below has some nice pictures of how the thing works and the speed warning gears as you would assemble them.

If the second worm gear is destroyed then odds are the first worm and magnet bushing is toast as is the first worm drive gear. When the bushing goes bad the first worm and magnet gets tweaked off alignment from the second worm and thus the eating starts.

If you replace the second worm and the teeth on the first worm are bad, it will usually just eat the new gear, up especially if you use the plastic replacement second worm gear. Considering how hard it is to remove the speedo from the car it seems only sensible to repair the head if the second worm is out on it.
