Default ZZ4 Intake Question

I got my car back last week and have been driving it a ton. The problem is this...when the mechanic gave it back to me he said he had to use an adapter plate in order to fit my Edelbrock carb on the ZZ4 intake. Not a problem unless I actually want to use an air cleaner and close my hood, which I do. My question is can I remove the 1 inch adpater plate and just set the carb on the intake? Or, do they make a smaller adapter plate? I tried to fit a drop-base air cleaner on but it won't work with the carb (fuel line too high on the carb). What would you guys recommend, different carb, different intake or hi-rise hood (seems overkill for a SB)?

Thanks for any help here.

I used my Q-jet and the stock dual snorkel intake from 1971 and everything fits fine. I don't know whey your mechanic would put a 1 inch spacer on your Edlebrock but you should be able to get a regular carb gasket and remove the spacer. The ZZ4 intake is universal, meaning that it will accept just about any 4 barrel carb out there. How do you like your new found power???????????? ZZ4's rule.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna remove the spacer tonight. The new engine is really nice, though I don't have anything to compare it to (the old 350 was toasted when I bought the car). I'm babying it for now but it's VERY easy to see that it has some serious power. I also put in new headers, SS dual exhasut with Flowmasters and it sounds pretty mean. I've already had some people pull up next to me revving thier engines but I just have to smile since I'm still breaking mine in, anyway I don't think I would ever race on the street.

Thanks again for the info!

I just bolted my demon right down to the intake. The only plate I had to use was a linkage plate. Since the Demon does not have the same linkage holder like the Qjet. The only problem I saw on mine was that with the HEI distributor you cannot set the air cleaner base on the carb without hitting the distributor. Now I plan on going with the MSD set up so the distributor will be the smaller can I do not need the 1.5 inch air cleaner spacer I am using with the L88 hood.
