Default Clutch recommendation

Hi guys,

I need some recommendations on where I can get a quality clutch kit for my '70 L46

My transmission is the Muncy M21.

Never done this before and I want to make sure I don't get a crap clutch kit. Thanks.

I went with a McCleod Super Street Pro. Not the cheapest, but a quality product.

Check out this link to a post I did a while ago. Due to PhotoBucket's new policies, they have stolen my photos and won't allow me to copy them back to myself, but the article text shoud give you some good info:

Does anyone know how you can copy the stolen and locked PhotoBucket photos and save your own photos back to yourself..? I'd like to slap those guys.

I like the centerforce in my Camaro...
I was unimpressed with the short life of a Zoom...

I had good luck with the ram hdx. It was good to 450 hp, it wasnt a bear to push in, and held power with the old 383. I bought a new ram clutch that is more agressive as my new engine would exceed the limits of the hdx. You can spend more, but I liked the ram clutch. You can go crazy upgrading to a hydraulic throwout bearing, Dual disc etc.My late model Camaro has the good stuff, but I think its unnecessary with my Corvette. Maybe if I daily drove it in stop and go commuter traffic. But I dont.

I used a Spec Stage II clutch. They are made in USA, have held up well so far, and the quality is excellent.

I've been using (and abusing) a Centerforce Light Metal Clutch for years.
I also had a bad experience with Centerforce's floating weight system but it may have partially been my fault. Other people have dissed that feature extensively.

Out of curiosity I looked up Danny Popp's car here

http://www.superchevy.com/features/1...ette-stingray/

It says in the text:

There's no slushbox here. Danny implements a '72 Hurst-controlled M21 four-gear (2.20:1 Low) via a Quarter Master 8.5-inch diameter dual-disc clutch and flywheel combo.

Another car worth looking at is RideTech's, somebody here may know, I couldn't find anything quickly. It is also worth knowing what clutches people hate so you can steer clear as in a couple of the previous posts.

That's what I'm running along with their aluminum fly wheel. Great quality and customer service.

That is why I will never store any of my information on the cloud. It's just a way corporations can hold YOUR information hostage. There should be a law that if you decide to not pay for cloud storage anymore then you get all your information back at no charge.

X2 for the Ram HDX rated to 450 Gross HP. I used this one based on the recommendation of my expert builder of the L-82 355 with 425+ Gross HP....feels exactly the same as the GM OEM clutch and has worked perfectly with the rebuilt/upgraded 355 and is very reasonably priced....

I have used Centerforce I and Centerforce II clutches on a number of builds over the years and have always been very pleased with the results. Others on this site have reported problems with their products related to the centrifugal weight system, but I've had good luck.

X2 on McLeod Super Street Pro. I just put one in my 1970 L46 after a healthy rebuild, and the clutch is just through break-in with about 600 miles on it. It feels good, no chatter, not a super heavy pedal and holds adjustment well so far. I also replaced the original flywheel with a steel flywheel. Very happy with my setup.

I like my Center Force DFX with the centrifugal weights. No issues with 450+ hp on the 31lb flywheel.
